I really liked your comic this week. Too bad Sideburns didn't put anything up to compete with. I also really liked your battle against Zach with the three-some and single-panel-comics. You would have beat anyone but Zach with that. In fact, I think that one was my single favorite battle ever. In truth, it's the real reason I visited this site for the first time.

heh, thanks Hopefully I'll give Zach even more of a challenge with my next battle against him (which will go up this Sunday night). It's already finished (Hamilton and FlamingKinkos have both seen the preview), and all I can say is... it creeped me out even while I was drawing it.

The problem with the better ideas I get is that they're usually only applicable to one person. Well, on one level that's not a problem. On another it is, because it's usually the easier opponents as opposed to the ones I really need a good battle to beat.

Or you could just wait for the good ones to write tierd-out crap like this week. How many times is the "Reva has sexual fantasies about dead authors" idea gunna be used? Though I must say, you got me really hyped to see this creepy battle, but I didn't really think yours was creepy...

Heh, yeah, I really wasn't expecting to be beating Zach, but looks like I sort of lucked out in facing Zach on an off-week (though I do give him props for having a battle despite being without electricity at his apartment). Though there's still another 24 hours of voting to go, so we'll see whose battle pulls through.

And yeah, it wasn't really creepy in the "evil nightmare-ish dude" sense, just in a "that's really messed up" sort of way (or at least, that's what I was going for or something).

Sktechbattles a connection of sketchwar right? I've heard of one but not the other.

I'm guessing that the undertones are that Zach's so euphoric after shooting up that he thinks he's funny. Sort of a 'Don't do heroin! It's not smart and as Zach proves it doesn't make you funny!' Jibe. If that was the case it could have done with a bit more hard sell on the genies part, and some peer pressure.

I guess the next logical step will be to exploit Zach's powercut, have him kicked out of his home, and end up selling his rear door to a sailor down the dockside....

They're connected, but not the same. Sketchbattle is a round-robin style tournament that runs in seasons, with 6 people in each season chosen by the admins. SketchWar is an elimination-style tournament open to anyone. However, SketchWar is sort of dead at the moment. Either way, the idea between individual battles is the same and as of now, the same guys run both sites.

Basicially. That and the fact that Zach isn't really funny at all (though he is... but in Sketchbattle everyone's free to make up shit ).

Nah, nothing's really too crude for SketchBattle. However, I don't know whether I'll be facing Zach again or not, depends on how things line up for the finals.

Having skim-read the archive, I'd say it's down to lack of ideas and repetition more than anything else. I guess like you said before regarding the sex with dead authors stuff, there's only so many times you can kick a dead horse before it ceases to be funny.

Although providing you present an old joke in a new way, either by situation or visualisation, there's no reason it can't be funny as hell.

Just out of interest Reva, (or anyone else here who indulges in this kind of activity) do you pre-plan the joke(s) when you first see the match up, or do you wait until shortly before and risk writers block but gain and advantage in relevance (to the persons recent activities\other jokes) ?

Well, I tend to think up ideas (though sadly this is just on the forum battles) after I know who I'm against. Though I don't tend to get writer's block... >.>

I'm completely the same way on my forum battles. Take tomorrow's battle for example. I thought up the idea, sketched it, and drew it in about 45 minutes and didn't start til today.

This would be the SMBC forum battle, rather than anything affiliated with Sambro's site(s). Oh, and you should all stop by and vote tomorrow. The way the draw worked out, I get to battle my twin brother so I got LOTS o' material. The battles are posted in "The Outlands" <dun dun duuuuun>
